Antigua Holidays + Caribbean Island Hopping
Barbuda: Tailor-Made + All-Inclusive options
SAMPLE ITINERARY
Antigua is the larger of the two main Caribbean islands that make up the Commonwealth nation of Antigua & Barbuda. A former British colony, this scenic island has a distinctly English feel which can be seen in its bustling capital, St John's, and in its historic forts.
As a coral-based island, Antigua’s beaches are the purest white you can get – from idyllic Half Moon Bay, protected by a reef and surrounded by lush greenery, to the pink-tinged sands of 17 Mile Beach and the white sands of Dickenson Bay. Throw in some fascinating heritage, colourful laid-back villages, great restaurants and some of the best luxury hotels in the Caribbean, and you’ll understand Antigua’s appeal.
In the south of the island, be sure to wander around the 18th century UNESCO-listed Nelson’s Dockyard, in picturesque English Harbour.
With its many sheltered bays and coves that ring this medium-sized island, and a wide selection of hotel and resort options, Antigua is a top choice for family holidays. With 365 beautiful white sandy beaches, you can visit a different one every day of the year! A wide variety of water sports are also on offer - from snorkelling and diving to windsurfing. There are also some very scenic golf courses.
Nonsuch Bay on the east coast is ideal for sailing and kitesurfing, as it is sheltered by a barrier reef and has warm trade winds all year round. You can take a short speedboat ride to Stingray City, where you can see hundreds of stingrays glide through the crystal-clear waters.
Inland you can visit the rainforest, take the scenic Fig Tree Drive or kayak through the mangroves. The varied local cuisine is well worth sampling, from mouth-watering Creole seafood and ‘fungi and pepperpot’ (a vegetable stew with dumplings) to the freshest indigenous fruits including mangoes, papayas and pineapples.
You can also take in historic sights such as the sugar plantation Betty’s Hope, and the impressive Fort Berkeley, the island’s defensive mainstay for centuries. From its world-famous yacht regattas and yacht shows, to its flamboyant July and August carnivals, Antigua is vibrant and buzzing.
A wide selection of accommodation is available, ranging from intimate guest houses to boutique spa hotels, historic inns, private luxury villas and world-class resorts. There are also many private islands.
With direct flights from London, Antigua can easily be combined with Barbuda. Other Caribbean island hopping options are also available e.g. combining with St Barths or St Lucia.
