Canary Islands - Holidays to Tenerife:
All Inclusive + Boutique Hotels + Golf
DETAILED ITINERARY
Tenerife is the largest and most developed island in the Canaries and therefore has the greatest choice of accommodation, restaurants, shopping and activities. Dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak, it is mountainous and has an incredibly diverse landscape, ranging from charming rural villages to black lava fields, green banana plantations and a host of idyllic beaches.
The island has nine golf courses & many luxury spa facilities, making it perfect for those wanting a larger island with many facilities. Canarian food is also simply delicious and the local white wine is excellent. Car hire is recommended if you wish to explore the island.
Playa de Las Americas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos in the south are the most popular tourist areas, with numerous man-made beaches protected by long breakwaters to prevent their golden sands from eroding. The beaches can get very busy here, but if you stroll along the promenade you won't find it too hard to find some quieter spots. You'll find a wide range of shopping here, including local ceramics and embroidery, and every type of water sport from snorkelling and diving, to surfing, sea kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. Dolphin and whale watching boat rides are also available in these warm waters, with 28 different species found here. Golfers may wish to stay near Golf del Sur. Or for a more traditional slower paced holiday, ask to stay in a rural location in the interior.
Alternatively you can stay in the old harbour town of Puerto de la Cruz on the north coast, with its dark volcanic sand beaches. Unspoilt El Bollullo beach is a 45 minute walk, or a short taxi ride away. From here you can explore the port city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the north-east, with its well preserved Spanish colonial Old Town, and visit Las Teresitas with its 1.5 km man-made beach.
When you are ready to explore the interior, Teide National Park must not be missed. This protected UNESCO World Heritage Site offers stunning volcanic landscapes, pine forests and green valleys. Drive through dramatic black lava fields and take the cable car to the top of Mount Teide for breathtaking views. Along the way you may see fumaroles emitting steam from this volcano. You can also explore this national park on foot or by horseback.
The dramatic Los Gigantes cliffs on west of the island are another unforgettable sight, as are the six mysterious Pyramids of Guimar, built without mortar. The Carnival of Santa Cruz takes in Tenerife each year in the run up to Easter - with parades, music, dancing and colourful costumes.
