Arrive in Porthmadog in time to check in to your hotel for the evening.

Accommodation - Premier Inn

Day 2: Ffestiniog Railway

Today take a return trip on the Ffestiniog Railway, the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The slate landscapes that surround the town have now become Wales' fourth UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round tight bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it.

Day 3: Welsh Highland Railway

Return to Harbour Station for a trip on The Welsh Highland Railway, the UK’s longest heritage railway which runs for 25 miles to Caernarfon, through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass, past the picture postcard village of Beddgelert and the foot of Snowdon. Passengers ride in some of the most comfortable carriages on any heritage railway in the UK.

In Caernarfon there is time to visit the Castle, recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages.

Day 4: Welsh Highland Heritage Railway

There is time to squeeze in a trip to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway where, as well as a short train ride, you will stop at the Engine Sheds where you get to climb into the cabs of the locomotives and see how things work, as well as ride on the miniature railway.

Return home or extend your trip.
