New Zealand is a spectacularly beautiful country whose landscapes have been used for many movies, including ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’. North Island is home to the largest city of Auckland, the Bay of Islands, the renowned Marlborough Winelands, Lake Taupo and Tongariro National Park, the Rotorua geothermal region and the capital city of Wellington.

However it is South Island that will take your breath away, from charming Christchurch and magnificent Queensland, to the awe-inspiring Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park. The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers are simply spectacular and Abel Tasman National Park is a great place to see colonies of fur seals, little blue penguins and bottlenose dolphins. Many people self-drive around New Zealand, as it’s so easy to get around (they drive on the left as in the UK) but you can also travel by train, join a small group or take an escorted rail tour.
