SAMPLE ITINERARY

There is a wide choice of Norwegian Fjords cruises – this is one sample itinerary, so ask us for advice on the right cruise itinerary for you. Any pre- and post-cruise arrangements can be tailor-made to your needs.

Day 1: Depart from Amsterdam

We suggest spending a night or two in Amsterdam, the beautiful capital of the Netherlands, prior to embarking on your cruise to the stunning Norwegian fjords.

Amsterdam has the wonderful atmosphere of a 17th century city, combined with the contemporary character of a modern metropolis. It is a treasure chest of superb architecture and is famous for its canals and extraordinary museums, including the famous Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House. In the late afternoon embark on your cruise.

Day 2: At Sea

Today is at leisure to relax at sea and enjoy the facilities of your ship.

Lounge by the pool, be spoiled at the spa, taste the delicious food, watch a movie or explore the various venues on board.

Day 3: Bergen

We dock in Bergen early this morning, with a full day to explore this former Viking stronghold which is surrounded by deep fjords, towering mountains and sweeping glaciers.

At the centre of its allure is the old wharf town of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with winding cobblestone alleys that will take you back through 400 years of Hanseatic domination. You can strike a bargain in one of the many artisans' workshops, visit the famous Fish Market and try the ‘skillingsbolle’ cinnamon rolls. Other Bergen specialties include fish soup, cured salmon, herring, shrimp, and venison.

This wonderfully preserved Norwegian city is alive with eclectic coffee houses, art galleries and a burgeoning local music scene. One of the best ways to take it all in aboard the city’s funicular, which climbs to 1,000 feet above sea level and provides sweeping views of the city and its surrounding mountains and fjords.

Day 4: Alesund

Today is spent exploring the fairytale town of Alesund, with its turrets, spires, and whimsical art nouveau architecture. From Mount Aksla you will have a bird’s-eye view of this colourful town, which is just a stone’s throw from the scenic Geirangerfjord, where centuries of glacial erosion have sculpted towering mountainsides with numerous dramatic waterfalls.

You can also drive along the famous Path of Trolls, a roadway that was blasted out of the mountainside, and explore the Saga Islands. On Giske you can walk in the footsteps of Vikings, and on Godoy you can visit the Atlantic Sea Park which has massive aquariums teeming with colourful fish and other marine life.

Day 5: Geiranger

Today we explore the stunningly rugged Geirangerfjord, whose emerald-green waters are offset by massive snow-capped mountains on either side, with magnificent cascading waterfalls. It is a UNESCO World Heritage landmark.

At the head of the fjord is a charming village where we dock for the day, with plenty of lovely shops for souvenirs and restaurants offering up fresh salmon, lake trout and local favourites such as goat meat, reindeer and speciality sausages.

Whether it’s standing before the cascades of the Seven Sisters waterfalls or climbing up to one of the scenic lookout points, Geiranger is jaw-droppingly beautiful. You can also take a side trip to Ørnesvingen or Flydalsjuvet.

Day 6: Olden

We dock in Olden today, a picturesque town located at the tip of the Nordfjord. Historic sites here include Olden Old Church, built in 1759 on the site of a stave church dating back to the 14th century, and the Singer Home - the former residence of American painter William Singer.

Nature lovers can explore the lush scenery around Lake Olden or take a sightseeing cruise. Walkers can trek to the Briksdal glacier, an arm of the largest glacier in continental Europe, hiking along river paths with gentle waterfalls created by the melting ice.

Day 7: At Sea

Enjoy another day at sea, relaxing at the end of your cruise.

Day 8: Disembark in Amsterdam & fly home

Disembark in Amsterdam this morning at the end of your wonderful cruise.
