St. Lucia Holidays, Caribbean: Tailor-Made
Snorkelling + Diving + Walking
SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Bringing together both British and French influences, St. Lucia is dominated by the twin Pitons (Gros and Petit) - two towering volcanic mountain spires draped in lush rainforest. Located between St Vincent and Martinique, this strikingly beautiful tropical island is a haven for nature lovers and those seeking luxury, with many pretty beaches and coves set against the dramatic backdrop of the Pitons.
Accessed by direct flights from London, St. Lucia offers some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving in the Caribbean. It is also a perfect destination for walking, hiking, biking, kitesurfing and kayaking. This, along with its rich culture, as showcased in its vibrant annual festivals, makes St Lucia a postcard perfect Caribbean island.
St. Lucia’s busy capital city of Castries is arguably one of the most beautifully positioned in the Caribbean, with a large deep harbour surrounded by undulating hills. About 8 miles south you’ll find Marigot Bay, one of the most stunning bays in the Caribbean, sheltered by palms and surrounded by hills. Used in the movie Doctor Dolittle, and a former pirate hideout, it is well worth visiting by land or yacht. You can also tour the island's only remaining rum distillery near here.
Further south, Soufriere is a deep-water harbour that sits at the base of the twin Pitons. Not too far away is the Soufriere Volcano from which the town derives its name - the world’s only ‘drive-in’ volcanic crater. You can visit the sulphur springs, see wild birds, orchids and ferns, and take an exhilarating canopy zip-wire over some of these remarkable sights. Another great way to admire the stunning scenery of the legendary twin Pitons is on an unforgettable helicopter ride.
St. Lucia is one of the top snorkelling and diving destinations in the Caribbean, with the submerged volcano that formed the island and its many sunken shipwrecks providing the perfect home for a diverse collection of marine life. Anse Chastanet beach offers coral reefs wonderful for snorkelling, calm turquoise waters for swimming and stunning views.
You can also enjoy whale watching and see turtles nesting, as well as experiencing the island’s birds and unique wildlife, which include the Saint Lucia whiptail (a type of lizard), the tiny Pygmy gecko and the Kouwes snake, the world's rarest snake.
The local gastronomy incorporates French influences with food and drink festivals, street parties and local cultural evenings offering a fascinating insight into life on this beautiful island. Held at the beginning of May each year, the St Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival is a highly anticipated event in the Caribbean.
From sipping Piton beers in the sleepy south to ‘Jump Up Fridays’ in the north, St. Lucia is a versatile island that offers the best of both worlds. St Lucia is easily combined with the nearby island of Antigua.
