DETAILED ITINERARY

Trinidad and Tobago is a two-island nation, situated north of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea, with distinctive Creole traditions and cuisine.

These two islands might be part of the same country, but they offer completely different experiences. Trinidad is a big, pulsing Caribbean island that revels in Creole culture and boasts a party scene that peaks during one of the world's greatest carnival celebrations in late February, featuring calypso and soca music, whereas the beat of the steel pans slows down dramatically in sleepy Tobago.

Almost the entire population lives on Trinidad. The capital of Port of Spain has high-rise buildings, a bustling port and many bustling marketplaces. Away from the main towns, you can find some monkey-inhabited rainforests and remote beaches. Protected by a deep bay, spectacular Maracas Bay on the north side of the island is an hour's mountainous drive from the capital, via the North Coast Road. You can also experience some of the best bird-watching in the Caribbean here, with numerous species found in sanctuaries such as the Asa Wright Nature Centre.

The much smaller island of Tobago is known for its quiet beaches, undisturbed patches of pristine rainforest and Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve, which shelters hummingbirds. This tropical Robinson Crusoe island has an authentic feel that you won’t find on Trinidad. Pigeon Point Beach in the south-west is considered the most beautiful in Tobago, and its famous thatch-roofed jetty is instantly recognisable. With long stretches of white sand beaches and with warm aquamarine waters, you can savour seafood cooked the way locals like it, snorkel amongst coral reefs, enjoy top-class diving or simply relax and while away each day. Bird-watching is also outstanding.
